Tristan und Isolde in Genoa from 13 to 22 February 2026[ From category News ]
| [ Article date: 2026-02-04 ] [ From city Genova ] [ Country Italia ]
| Undoubtedly the most eagerly awaited and ambitious event of the Teatro Carlo Felice`s 2025-26 season, a new production of Richard Wagner`s Tristan und Isolde will be staged in Genoa from 13 to 22 February. One of the most influential works in the Western operatic repertoire, Wagner`s masterpiece returns to the Ligurian stage in a brand-new production.
On Friday, February 6 at 10:30 a.m., a press conference will be held in the Sala Paganini. At 11:30 a.m., in the First Foyer, the production will be presented to the public in an open meeting with the General Director and the Artistic Director in dialogue with the creative team and the cast.
A work that inaugurates a new conception of musical drama, Tristan und Isolde will be conducted by Donato Renzetti and staged by Laurence Dale, with sets and costumes by Gary McCann, lighting by John Bishop and video design by Leandro Summo.
The cast features Tilmann Unger (Tristan), Evgeny Stavinsky (King Marke), Marjorie Owens (Isolde), Nicolò Ceriani (Kurwenal), Saverio Fiore (Melot), Daniela Barcellona (Brangäne), Andrea Schifaudo (A Sailor / A Shepherd) and Matteo Peirone (The Helmsman).
They are joined, of course, by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Fondazione Teatro Carlo Felice, with Claudio Marino Moretti as Chorus Master.
The detailed performance schedule is as follows: opening night on Friday, February 13 at 6:30 p.m. (Subscription A), followed by performances on Sunday, February 15 at 3:00 p.m. (Subscription C), Friday, February 20 at 6:30 p.m. (Subscription B) and Sunday, February 22 at 3:00 p.m. (Subscription F).
"The production of Tristan und Isolde, " says General Director Michele Galli, "represents a central milestone in the artistic journey of the Teatro Carlo Felice. This masterpiece offers an unprecedented musical experience, capable of dissolving time and enveloping the listener in a continuous sonic flow. Wagner here composed the most radical score of his era, portraying love as abyss, mystery and destiny. It is also fully consistent with the thematic thread of Navigators that underpins the season`s programming: figures in perpetual motion, suspended between departure and arrival, between the real world and the longing for the absolute. No other Wagnerian work embodies so powerfully the idea of navigation as an existential condition, of the sea as a symbolic space, and of the journey as destiny."
Two introductory events are also scheduled at the Teatro Auditorium Eugenio Montale. On Tuesday, February 3 at 6:00 p.m., students of the "Sandro Pertini" Music High School, in collaboration with the Associazione Carlo Felice Young, will present the opera to their peers and to the public in a meeting entitled Between Love and Death. On Saturday, February 7 at 4:00 p.m., in collaboration with the Friends of the Teatro Carlo Felice and the "Niccolò Paganini" Conservatory, musicologist Marco Pescetto will give a talk entitled An Inextinguishable Love.
In the spirit of broad outreach and audience engagement, thirty-minute listening introductions are also confirmed. These will take place in the Sala Paganini starting 45 minutes before each performance and will be led by students of the "Niccolò Paganini" Conservatory.
